I don’t know why I am watching Drama back-to-back despite me not favoring this type of genre, but I have to admit, so far, the ones I saw were nice and recommendable.
This time I watched the movie Past Lives and though the movie is Korean Culture based, but it tackles on something deeper and more important in lives, and that’s the choices we make that create our future.
Hae Sung: What if this is a past life as well, and we are already something else to each other in our next life? Who do you think we are then?

The movie although shows a normal life of three different people (that usually happens world wide and even you may know people around you having such situation, including me) but reflects something profound.
In many intracultural families, there are always something that connects back a person to his/her ancestral and cultural roots. That maybe painful at times and in many situations brings up the big question of “what if?” (look the quote above)
The movie refers to a Korean belief regarding how people are connected to each other. Interestingly I found similar beliefs in both Persian culture and Filipino culture, that says how marriages and relationships are set even from before (past lives) in heaven!!!
What I loved about the movie was how realistic it was and how mature people look for closure in their lives to be able to move forward. And how mature people can respond to their emotions and actions along the way in life.
This movie actually reminded me of the book I’ve read few months ago entitled “the Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. There are and will be times in life we would ask ourselves what would it be if we chose a different rote in life and chose the road less travelled (referring to poem from Robert Frost). But at the end we need to take a mature respond despite all such questions mind creates.
Though at times it might be painful to accept reality but at the end it helps the mind to find peace.
After all each one of us has a path and life to go through and the people who come along the way, no matter if they stay long or short, it is us whom should find the path and live our lives to its fullest possible. Remember that all the choices we made in life was because we thought it is the best choice at that certain moment based on that certain level of knowledge we have had acquired by then.
Nora: it’s like “planting two trees in one pot, our roots need to find their place”.
